This entire wrapper originally contained a "returned letter" addressed to John Cameron, Postmaster, Bonawe - bearing a handstruck "1" in red ink together with four strikes of the "2" charge mark in black ink and two strikes of the Maltese Cross also in black. These were probably applied whilst cleaning/testing the cancels.
In 1846 at age 25, John Cameron was convicted of forging money orders at Inverary assizes and sentenced to transportation for life to Van Diemans land.
