1d Red from Huntly to Fochabers, dated 4 January 1843, cancelled by what looks like a strike of an unusual Maltese Cross with one very wide arm to the inner cross. On closer inspection this anomoly is instead caused by a double strike of the Maltese Cross. The diamond point nearest the ‘wide’ inner cross arm has two points, and there is a faint mark inside the wide arm which is one side of the inner arm of the second strike. The opposite side of the first strike is also missing, thus giving the appearance of a wide arm. The outer cross on the same side is also wider between the loops.
