1843 entire wrapper addressed to Inveraray bearing an 1841 1d red-brown tied by the black Maltese Cross of Tarbert and dated on reverse for AP 18 1843. On arrival the same day datestamp has been cancelled out by the Inveraray Maltese cross handstamp in black ink on reverse of the wrapper, with alongside a further strike of the datestamp for next day delivery for 19 AP 1843.
A most unusual use of the Maltese Cross handstamp outwith cancelling the adhesive and contrary to post office regulations.
